The history of tinctures dates back thousands of years, with their use in various cultures for medicinal and therapeutic purpose, tinctures were used in ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Greece & China. The Egyptians used alcohol based tinctures as early as 1550 BCE to extract medicinal properties from plants. In fact tinctures were used all the way up until the 20th Century with knowledge of herbal medicine being passed down through generations of herbalists.
The pharmaceutical industry diminished the use of tinctures in mainstream medicine but thankfully it has gained renewed interest in recent years due to the growing focus on natural & holistic health.
Tinctures are herbal extracts made by soaking plant materials (such as herbs, roots & berries) in alcohol. This process allows the active compounds from the plant to be infused into liquid, creating a concentrated solution.
Tinctures allow to the body to absorb the solvent easier than other herbal remedies, they also provide quicker effects compared to other forms of herbal preparations. They have a much longer shelf life than any other herbal medicine because the alcohol acts as a preservative.
